Let's start with "Insanity" or "Being Insane". What does "Insane" mean?

Madness. Mad. "Mad as a Hatter". Does anyone know where THAT came from? Hatter's were known to go Insane or mad due to making hats. The hats had a sort of metal in them to keep them up right, this metal was mercury. They got mercury poisoning, and as the hats went on their heads, it leaked into their brains.
